Application Period for the One-Stop Special System
If you made a Hometown Tax donation during the year, be sure to send your application form and documents in time to reach the local government by the deadline, usually around January 10th of the next year.
1). Get Your Documents Ready – For the One-Stop Special System, you’ll need to gather a few important documents. Make sure you send everything to each local government where you made a donation, and double-check that nothing is missing.
2). You must submit one of the following combinations: A, B, or C. If A or B is hard to provide, please use method C instead.
A = Copy of My Number Card (front) + Copy of My Number Card (back).
B = Copy of one of the following: My Number Notification Card (※) / Resident certificate with My Number listed + Driver’s license/ Passport.
C = Copy of one of the following: My Number Notification Card (※) / Resident certificate with My Number listed + Copy of two of the following: Health insurance card / Pension book / Public documents recognized by the submitting local government.
3). Mail Your Application Form and Documents – Once you’ve filled out the application form, mail it along with the required documents to the local government where you made your donation. Please note that if any documents are missing or incomplete, you won’t be able to receive the donation tax deduction.

If Your Address or Name Changes After Submitting the Application
If you move or change your name due to marriage after submitting the application, you must send a “Notification of Change in Special Application for Donation Tax Amount Deduction” to the local government where you submitted your application by January 10th of the year following your donation.

Important Notes on the One-Stop Special System
When using the One-Stop Special System, you need to submit an application for each donation. Even if you donate to five or fewer local governments, if you make many donations, it might be easier to use the final tax return process.
You made donations to more than five places in one year
If you’re not sure how many places you’ll donate to this year or plan to donate to 6 or more, you’ll need to file a tax return. You may also need to file a tax return for reasons other than Hometown Tax donations.
1). Filing Online with My Number Card:
What you need: My number card, IC card readable smartphone/My number card supported smartphone, Certificate of income and withholding tax, Bank account number under the applicant name.
- Link your My Number Card with the My Number Portal and file your return via e-Tax.
- Use the “Certificate of Donation Deduction”.
- All steps can be done online, and you can easily retrieve multiple certificates, not just for Hometown Tax.
2). Filing Online without My Number Card:
What you need: My number card, IC card readable smartphone/My number card supported smartphone, or Notification of Completion for ID/Password Method Issued by the Tax Office , Certificate of income and withholding tax, Bank account number under the applicant name.
- Download the certificate data and file your return via e-Tax.
- Use the “Certificate of Donation Deduction”.
- You can still file online via e-Tax without a My Number Card.
3). Filing by Paper at the Tax Office:
What you need: Printer, stamp, signature stamp, envelope, copy of my number card or other identity cerfication(My Number Notification Card + Identity Verification Documents such as Driver’s License/Passport or Resident Certificate with My Number + Identity Verification Documents such as Driver’s License/Passport ) , Certificate of income and withholding tax, Bank account number under the applicant name.
- On the return gift page, select “Not required (I will obtain the electronic data myself)”.
Note: Some municipalities might still send a “Donation Receipt Certificate”. - From Rakuten Furusato Nozei My Page, complete the electronic issuance of the “Certificate of Donation Deduction” (available from January of the year after your donation).
- Obtain the certificate data and convert it to a PDF using the National Tax Agency’s QR Code Certificate Creation System.
- Create your tax return using the National Tax Agency’s Tax Return Preparation Corner.
- Print and submit all documents to the relevant tax office by mail or in person.
4). Filing by Paper with Municipality-Issued Certificate:
What you need: Printer, stamp, signature stamp, envelope, copy of my number card or other identity cerfication(My Number Notification Card + Identity Verification Documents such as Driver’s License/Passport or Resident Certificate with My Number + Identity Verification Documents such as Driver’s License/Passport ) , Certificate of income and withholding tax, Bank account number under the applicant name.
- On the return gift page, select “Required (for tax return)”.
- Receive the “Donation Receipt Certificate” from the municipality.
- Create your tax return using the National Tax Agency’s Tax Return Preparation Corner.
- Print and submit all documents to the relevant tax office by mail or in person.
